Together: Co-Sheltering People and Animals of Domestic Violence

Please join us for a day to discuss solutions for a LINK-informed Colorado. 

The purpose of the Together conference is to address the barriers to safety that families with pets and animals have when experiencing violence and discuss solutions. The conference will share and discuss solutions from intake to final independent housing. Best practices of co-sheltering in Colorado domestic violence shelters will be featured along with a discussion about other alternatives such as off-site housing and foster care programs.

Space is limited so please register early. Sign Language interpretation will be available.

Decades of research support the existence of a link between animal abuse and violence toward humans. This represents a serious risk to public health and safety. The Colorado LINK Project addresses these issues through education, community outreach, training and multidisciplinary coordination. The overall goal is to develop LINK-informed services which recognize, respond to and repair the effects of co-occuring family violence, child maltreatment and animal abuse. Learn more at:

Directions:

The Graduate School of Social Work and Institute for Human-Animal Connection are located in Craig Hall at 2148 South High Street, Denver, CO 80210, just south of Evans Avenue on High Street.

If you are coming from I-25, take the University Exit (#205) and head south.  Turn right on Evans Ave, which is 3 traffic lights after you exit from I-25.  Once on Evans, you will pass underneath a pedestrian bridge walkway, which is the Driscoll Student Center.  The next traffic light after the bridge is High Street. Turn left on High Street, and then left again into a driveway that will lead you in to the parking garage.  As you turn left into the driveway, Craig Hall will be on your right. The Community Room is on the first floor of Craig Hall and the best entrance into the building is on the interior side of campus, adjacent to the brick patio.

Parking:

Parking permits are available for the event in a covered parking garage next to the event venue. You must indicate that you need a parking permit when you register for the event. Parking permits will be e-mailed as a PDF at least 48 hours before the event.

There is also on-street parking available, but you must drive/park 5 or 6 blocks off campus to access street parking with no time limitations.
