The American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare is leading a groundbreaking initiative to champion social progress powered by science through the 12 Grand Challenges for Social Work.
To advance progress on the Social Work's Grand Challenges, the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Denver has launched the Social Work Grand Challenges Science for Action Series. The series addresses all 12 of the challenges over the next four years. Each event is hosted in Denver and made available to social work and allied fields via live streaming.
We hope you will join us at our next event on April 26th, Ending Homelessness: Implementing Approaches that Work. This full-day workshop will have a plenary address given by Ben Henwood, Ph.D., Associate Professor at USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work. Professor Henwood is a national expert on and former clinical director for housing programs. He is currently funded by NIMH and SAMHSA grants to study homelessness and housing solutions.
Following Professor Henwood’s presentation on the research regarding homelessness and effective prevention and intervention, The Burnes Center for Poverty and Homelessness at the Graduate School of Social Work will moderate interactive sessions where community leaders in Denver will reflect on how issues of homelessness play out in the local context. The day will end with calls for action in Denver and beyond as it pertains to building a knowledge base and positively impacting the issue.
